Chapter 15: The Disappearance of Jill

Comprehension Questions

  1. What happened to Jill from her friends’ viewpoint? What did they feel like when Jill disappeared?

Jill disappeared when the light dazzled their eyes for a second. They thought something dragged her to the hole and she might have died. They felt sorry and sad that they could not help her and lost her.

2. What had really happened to Jill?

When she got her head out of the hole, she saw moonlight and starts on the sky, snow and dancing Narnians. She tried to tell them that they were home but the message could not reach them.

3. Why didn’t anyone doubt who Prince Rilian was?

There were enough Narnians who have seen him before his disappearance. Also, some of old ones who know King Caspian well from his young age could recognize him due to his resemblance with his father. Somehow everyone had no doubt that he was the Prince.

4. What did Prince Rilian talk about while the children slept? What did it mean?

While Eustace and Jill fell asleep, Prince Rilian shared his story with some wiser Dwarfs and Beasts. And they finally realized his disappearance and why it happened and who was the behind of all of it. The same White Witch, who brought harsh winter in Narnia ages ago, came up with another plan to rule Narnia by killing Rilian’s mother and enchanting the Prince Rilian himself.

Reflection

Even if this chapter was titled in a way that something bad is going to happen at some point, it was actually the turning that leads to the pleasing ending of the story as same as how Jill’s friends felt when Jill disappeared, yet turned out to be a good ending.

I am happy to see that they can finally rest without anything to worry or to be scared.
